Everyone else is in the game...why not me?
I had a few rescue pet ball pythons I had acquired over the years. I received them from various places...the police when they evicted people and the people had left the night before but left the snake, college students moving, and just owners who got tired of their pets. I sold the males at shows but kept the females thinking that one day I'd do something....
That day came at the Daytona Show of 2005. My wife purchased an adult male proven breeder het pied from Pete Kahl as a present. They weren't very much (compared to the thousands$$ for a true pied) and I like trying the long way to a project.
In 2006 I breed him to a few females and got eggs. I kept all females and now maybe in 09 I'll be ready to breed them?
In 2006 I also acquired a few more het recessive gene males (secret project this time) to add to the collection to try the long shot. I don't have the desire or cash to lay out lots of $$ but a cheap het investment is easier for me to swallow. Plus...they are little side project to dabble in...not my main focus. With the het recessives it is fun and the snakes hold their value a lot better then the codom's. Anyone look at pastel, spider or those morphs lately?
These new animals from 06 (they were 05 hatch) bred for me in 2008. Three clutches!
